Solution-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is a method that provides detailed information about the structure, dynamics and interactions of biological macromolecules under conditions that can mimic the cellular environment.

NMR spectroscopy can provide residue-specific information on structure, dynamics and interactions that is complementary to information from other biophysical methods such as crystallography, cryo-EM, small angle X-ray scattering and calorimetry. The Redfield, Schnell and Vakonakis groups use NMR as a primary research tool while many other Biochemistry groups have found that NMR can help them to address specific research questions.

The Biochemistry NMR facility has four solution-state Bruker spectrometers running at 1H frequencies of 500, 600, 750 and 950 MHz. All spectrometers have high-sensitivity cryoprobes for 1H/13C/15N detection. The NMR facility is located in the basement of the Rex Richards Building, close to New Biochemistry. Advanced Fluorescence Microscopy

Micron Oxford is an advanced Bioimaging Unit developing and applying cutting edge technologies as well as providing diverse advanced imaging facilities. They help users perform optimum imaging experiments to address their biological questions, offering advice training and advice on experimental design, specimen preparation, image analysis and data storage.

Advanced Proteomics Facility

The Advanced Proteomics Facility provides access to the latest proteomics technologies. It’s equipped with a wide range of mass spectrometry instrumentation, HPLC fractionation systems, sample preparation technologies and data analysis software. We provide protein, protein complex, proteome identification as routine services.

Molecular Biophysics

We offer a range of techniques to study macromolecules and macromolecular complexes. These include analytical ultracentrifugation, differential scanning calorimetry, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, isothermal titration calorimetry and surface plasmon resonance. All users must be registered with Dr David Staunton and receive any necessary training.

Crystallography

The Crystallography Facility enables you to apply the methods of X-ray crystallography to your biological questions. We can offer both state of the art equipment and expert advice and training in the use of crystallography for structural biology.
